Past Entrants
Calling all Opal Lovers –
Entries now open for 2020 ‘Queen of Gems’
The Queen of Gems Design awards held its inaugural ceremony in 2006, as an initiative of Winton local business owner, Mary Pearce. The first event included a Fashion category of evening wear, and an open Jewellery category, with entrants from across Australia showcasing both the Queensland Boulder Opal in all its splendour, and the creativity of their design and manufacture. Since then, it has expanded internationally, with frequent entries from Japan.
The awards have grown over the years, and been transformed with new categories for both Fashion and Jewellery. The next 2016 Jewellery awards are introducing a category of Object Design – objects that are not worn on the body.
Sponsorship for the generous prizes has come from QBOA membership and Winton Shire Council, with the North Gregory Hotel hosting the event in recent years.
The QBOA looks forward to the next awards. In the meantime, please find below some information on past entries.
