QUEEN OF GEMS OPAL DRESS DESIGN COMPETITION FOR 2008

& Saturday 5th July 2008 in Winton Queensland.

ENTRY FORM
AIM:-
The QBOA is endeavouring to tap into the wealth of talent we know exists and to
promote this wonderful national treasure called OPAL, “The Queen of Gems.”
Opal is Australia’s National Gemstone. Per caret precious opal is more valuable
than diamonds and rightly so, for no other gem known to man can compare with the
play of colour and patterns which create its dazzling beauty.
PARTICIPANTS:-
The competition is for non Professionals.
CATEGORIES:-
CATEGORY 1:- Evening Elegance - As the name implies this is a traditionally
formal evening outfit.
CATEGORY 2:- Any other item of Apparel - this category allows the designers
creative imagination to run wild to create an article of apparel in any medium.
ENTRY FEES:-
$30-00 Non refundable fee for each entry.
PRIZES AWARDED:-
1 prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the overall winner which will be chosen
from both categories combined.
CRITERIA FOR DESIGN ENTRIES:-
Submitted entries must be original designs that have not been put on display or
commercialised before.
There is no limit to the number of designs entered, but each entry can only be
entered in one category.
Designs in both categories must be inspired by Boulder Opal and its natural
environment.
A short written description of the garment including an explanation of the opal
inspiration for the design must be attached to the entry this may be used by the
MC on the night the winner is announced.
Dress size to be size 12 or 14 unless you provide your own model for the parade.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:-
Insurance of the entries to and from Winton is the responsibility of the
entrant. Your failure to secure insurance in no way shifts responsibility to
QBOA.
While the QBOA will take every precaution to ensure the security of the entries,
including insurance against theft, loss or damage, QBOA will accept NO liability
nor give any specific guarantee against theft, loss or damage of the entry.
The QBOA accepts all entries in good faith, on the basis that they are original
works which comply with the conditions of entry. The QBOA accepts no
responsibility for any entry that is subsequently found not to be original. The
QBOA also reserves the right to remove any entry from competition without
explanation and/or rescind any award.
Entrants must allow their entries to be modelled at the Gala Dinner Dance on
7/7/08 when the winner will be announced.
The QBOA reserves the right to photograph the entries for use in all QBOA
marketing and publicity activities.
Nominations and payment of entries close on Friday 8/6/08.
Entries must be delivered to QBOA free of all freight or other charges no later
than Friday 22/6/08.
Return of entries by registered post must be paid for by the entrant.
CANCELLATIONS will not be entitled to a refund.
QBOA reserves the right to refuse any entry that is late or does not conform to
the specific Rules and conditions of entry.
JUDGING:-
Entries will be code numbered for anonymity for judging and the finalists shall
be paraded on the final night at the Gala Dinner Dance on 5/7/08 where the
winner shall be announced.
The judge’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
At the discretion of the judging panel additional prizes such as High
Commendation, Commendation or Certificate of Merit may be awarded.
